‘Stand with Estela’ special announcement Thursday

On Thursday, Estela Casas is teaming up with The El Paso Community Foundation for a special announcement.

It comes after her she announced her bilateral breast cancer diagnosis earlier this month.

“After reporting on breast cancer for more than three decades, I join the thousands women and men, it happens to men too, fighting against this potentially deadly disease,” Estela said on-air on September 19.

“I have bilateral breast cancer.”

Breast cancer is the most diagnosed cancer among women with 1 in 8 to be diagnosed in their lifetime in the United States.

Estela has been a longtime advocate of breast cancer awareness. In 1986, she spearheaded the Texas Breast Cancer Screening Project.

In 1993, she underwent a mammogram on television to promote the importance of women getting their own mammogram every year.

Estela has been part of many organizations and events highlighting womens’ health.

Her latest diagnosis is not her first bout with cancer, in 2010 she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and overcame it. Estela started her own blog, Opening Up, to share her experience and help others who are dealing with thyroid cancer and thyroid disease.

Now more than ever, she is committed to breast cancer awareness and sharing her journey with the community to help others battling the disease.

The ‘Stand with Estela’ announcement will begin at 2 p.m. and will be streamed on kvia.com.
