Veronica Escobar returns chief of staff’s donation to her campaign for congress

County Judge Veronica Escobar announced she has returned the donation her chief of staff, Ruben Vogt, gave to her campaign for congress citing ethical questions.

Vogt was appointed to fill the county judge seat vacated by Escobar and will serve for the next 15 months.

In a statement, Escobar said, “Last week, Ruben contributed to my campaign for congress, and because it’s important to me that there be no ethical questions concerning the contribution, I am returning it.”

She also said the county attorney confirms there is no rule banning a contribution from Vogt. Escobar said she wanted to make sure the public was aware of the contribution.

Escobar’s campaign is hosting a fundraising event Wednesday, October 11 at El Paso Tennis and Swim Club.
