Thursday Night Lights: Andress tops Bowie; Americas vs. Socorro postponed
Andress 38, Bowie 21 Final
Bowie led the contest 7-3 early in the 2nd quarter when Andress quarterback Dominique Smith caught fire. He would connect on multiple deep passes in the 2nd to essentially put the game out of reach.
He first connected on a touchdown pass with Marco Barron early in the 2nd to make it 10-7 Eagles. Then, Smith found Darian Smith streaking down the sideline for a big gain that led to a Jalen Joseph rushing touchdown that made it 17-7. Smith then added another score when he hit Tre Maestas underneath the Bowie safeties. Maestas was able to then beat both safeties to the end zone to put his team up 24-7 just before the break.
Bowie found its offensive groove in the 2nd half, but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback. Justin Diaz recorded a 60-yard touchdown run for the Bears in the 3rd quarter. Nathan Felix would add a 48-yard rushing score of his own in the 4th. But Andress would hold on to win the game, 38-21.
Americas vs. Socorro (Postponed)
Fans waited through rain and lightning delays before officials decided to reschedule the game. The teams will now meet Friday at 4 p.m. at the SAC as part of a doubleheader there.
Both Socorro and Americas could use a victory after a tough start to the season. The teams have combined for just one win so far in eight games (Americas beat Del Valle in week two).
Montwood and El Dorado will play afterwards at the SAC in the Borderland Blitz Game of the Week.
