Body of Texas Tech officer killed returns to El Paso

The body of the Texas Tech police officer killed returns home to El Paso Saturday.

Police say 19-year-old student Hollis Daniels shot and killed Floyd East Jr. in Lubbock earlier this month during an attempted arrest.

East was a native El Pasoan who leaves behind a wife and two daughters. East’s LinkedIn account states he previously worked for the Texas Tech Police Department in El Paso. A lifelong friend of the victim told ABC-7 East graduated from Andress high in the late 80s and was doing security work for Texas Tech in El Paso “up until a couple of months ago” when East joined the Texas Tech police force in Lubbock.

According to a news release sent by Texas Tech University, the funeral procession for East is scheduled for Saturday.

The funeral procession for East departed from a funeral home in Lubbock before departing for El Paso. A rosary will be held on Tuesday, October 17th for family and law enforcement personnel only.

A public memorial service will be held at 11:30 A.M. Tuesday at the Abraham Chavez Theatre.
