EPPD: Man arrested after gunfire exchange with officers

A man was taken into custody by the El Paso Police Department Monday morning after gunfire was exchanged with officers.

Police spokesman Darrel Petry told ABC-7 officers responded to the 9400 block of Martinique Dr. in the Lower Valley at about 5:30 a.m. Petry said a call was made to 911 to report a man with a gun.

“Upon their (officers) arrival, an individual started discharging rounds at the officers who were on the scene. Officer did return fire,” Petry said.

No injuries were reported.

EPPD initially requested assistance from the SWAT team, but about 15 minutes later cancelled the call.

Petry said the man came out of the home and was taken into custody.

A portion of Martinique Dr. was blocked off by a police car. It appears the home where the incident happened was located in a dead end. Police cars could also be seen along a canal near the street.

The Crimes Against Persons unit, Texas Rangers Shooting Review Team and Internal Affairs are all investigating the incident.
