El Paso Electric customers could see lower bills if reduction fuel factor is approved

El Paso Electric customers could soon see lower bills within the next month.

The El Paso Electric Company has filed with the Public Utility Commission of Texas, a state agency that regulates the state’s electric and telecommunication utilities, to reduce its existing Texas fuel factor by 19 percent.

The fuel factor is designed to recover the cost of fuel generated electricity which El Paso Electric obtains to supply electric power to residential costumers. The fuel factor would decrease customers bills by around $3.03 a month.

If the reduction fuel factor is approved by the Public Utility Commission of Texas, it could go into effect as early as November 2017.

Fuel factors are adjusted periodically by EPE to accurately reflect the current and estimated cost of fuel.
