Las Cruces pet grooming shop hosts fundraiser for hurricane victims
Dog groomer Rebecca Egan said she felt compelled to help out the thousands of victims affected by Hurricanes Harvey, Maria and Irma.
“A lot of the hurricane stuff hit me pretty close. I’ve got a lot of friends who have been doing stuff in Houston with the relief effort. My mom does search and rescue — so you know it hits kind of close to home,” Egan said.
Egan wanted to incorporate her love for animals to help raise money. She approached her boss Kat Lacy, owner of Better Life Natural Pet Foods, about the possibility of hosting a charity dog wash.
On Sunday, the shop opened its doors from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. with all proceeds going to the Red Cross.
“It is so awesome, I mean they’re — I can’t believe the early birds that showed up before 9 that were just like ‘i’m getting a head start.’ It’s awesome, it’s really great,” Lacy said.
Lacy said on a usual day, they groom about 15 pets. Sunday’s goal was to groom over 200 pets.
“We’re very pleased with these results. We had a lot of sweet dogs walk through these doors,” Egan said. “It’s just super cool to see everyone coming together for such an effort to help with these disasters.”
