UTEP Miners fall to 0-8 on the season following loss to UTSA

Fresh off their bye week, the UTEP Miners were hoping the week off would give them the answers needed to get that elusive first win of the season.

That win wouldn’t come Saturday night against the UT-San Antonio Roadrunners.

The Miners lost their 8th game of the season in front of the home crowd at the Sun Bowl by a final of 31-14.

UTSA jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the second quarter, but the Miners fought back.

UTEP quarterback Zach Greenlee gave the Miners their first touchdown of the game with a 6-yard quarterback keeper into the end zone.

Later in the 2nd quarter, UTEP running back Josh Fields would get into the end zone with a 5-yard touchdown run.

It was Fields’ first touchdown as a Miner.

Fields is a freshman who graduated from Americas High School.

Miners cut UTSA’s lead to 17-14 at halftime, but the UTEP offense stalled in the second half.

In the 4th quarter, Greenlee threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown to put the Roadrunners up 31-14.

It would be the final score of the night.

Greenlee was 8 for 29, 133 yards and 2 interceptions.

The 0-8 Miners will hit the road next week for another Conference USA match up against the 3-5 Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders.
