UTEP students could see tuition and fee hikes

A tuition and fees forum is planned at UTEP Tuesday to address potential price increases, according to school officials.

The University of Texas System Board of Regents authorized UT System academic institutions to pursue potential increases for the next two academic years, 2018 through 2020.

In a bid to promote transparency, UTEP officials invited students, faculty and staff to learn about the reasons behind the potential increases, and efforts on the El Paso campus to maintain affordable costs.

The forum will be held at 2 p.m. in room 312 of the Union Building East on the UTEP campus.

Vice President for Student Affairs Gary Edens, is expected to compares UTEP costs to other universities, and will answer questions from attendees.

“UTEP is proud that we have been able to maintain some of the lowest tuition costs of any national research university, but increases are now needed to retain faculty and ensure the quality of the educational experience,” said Edens. “Members of the campus community are encouraged to attend the forum to hear more about the tuition-setting process and provide feedback on UTEP’s plan for the future.”
