EPPD: Driver failed to yield right-of-way to motorcyclist critically injured in wreck

Police officers investigating a motorcycle wreck said Friday a woman failed to yield the right-of-way to a motorcyclist who suffered life-threatening injuries.

The crash happened at George Dieter and Pellicano shortly before 5 pm on November 30, 2017.

Police said Celeste Guzman, 28, was driving a Chevrolet Camaro northbound on George Dieter. Investigators learned Guzman turned left onto Pellicano, into the path of 20-year-old Mikhail Atayde, riding south on George Dieter.

Atayde, riding a late-model Harley Davidson, suffered life-threatening injuries when he struck the passenger side door of Guzman’s Camaro, police said.

A witness on scene told ABC-7 that he ran up to the motorcyclist immediately following the crash. “He was crippled,” said Adrian Parga. “He was not moving, but he was looking at me. He had his helmet on.”

A police news release states, “failure to yield the right-of-way on the part of Guzman is a factor in the collision.”

No charges have been filed and the investigation continues, police said.
