No delays to school start times Friday

The three largest school districts in El Paso County announced they will not delay the school start time Friday.

The freezing temperatures had prompted some concerns over hazardous road conditions.

By 5:30 a.m. Friday, the El Paso, Ysleta, and Socorro Independent School Districts, along with the Las Cruces Public Schools all announced on Twitter that they would not be delaying school. Gadsden schools will also start on time.

Officials with El Paso County also issued a statement saying the courthouse and satellite offices will open on time.

“Efforts have been underway since 3:00am this morning to help avoid hazardous conditions on roadways (de-icing solution, sand, salt),” the statement said. “Although we experienced freezing temperatures overnight and into the morning hours it did not have as much of an impact given roadways had the opportunity to dry during the day and into the evening yesterday.”

The ABC-7 First Alert continues for the brutally cold temperatures in the morning. Tune in to Good Morning El Paso for Nichole Gomez’s Friday and weekend forecast.
