Pet of truckers killed Thursday morning survives crash
The newly-engaged couple killed Thursday morning on I-10 had a dog inside the cab of the tractor-trailer at the time of the crash.
“There was a dog in the truck,” witness and truck driver Jean Beck said. “It was whining a bit.” Beck said the dog was stuck inside the cab between the dash and the passenger seat.
Police identified the driver as 24-year-old Patrick Charles Van Fossen, of McKinney, Texas and his passenger as Keserie Paredes of Van Alstyne, Texas.
ABC-7 spoke with the sister of Van Fossen who said the couple had several pets including a pair of cats and ferrets..
“Keserie and my brother loved animals,” Erika Van Fossen said. “They had so many animals.”
The night of the crash, the couple had their 8-month-old puppy Delilah with them, shown below with Van Fossen.
The dog was pulled from the wreck with no injuries.
Animal Services is housing the dog, while next of kin is notified.
Animal Services spokeman Ramon Herrera said Delilah is resting and the vet staff is keeping a close eye on her. He sent ABC-7 these photos:
Erika told ABC-7 she will be bringing the dog home to live with her in Oklahoma.
