Major closures now underway in east El Paso

If your commute involves driving near Cielo Vista Mall get ready for some traffic closures.

A big closure that began on Wednesday is set to last for 5 months.

The I-10 eastbound exit ramp at Hawkins will be closed until May.

The closure may have caught drivers off-guard and TXDOT apologizes for the miscommunication.

To avoid the closure, you can use either Geronimo or Airway to exit the freeway.

You can also go past Cielo Vista Mall then use the Viscount exit and make a u-turn.

If you use the gateways, be aware that starting Sunday there will be left lane closures.

And then starting Sunday night, the west bound Hawkins exit will also be closed.

All of these closures is on top of the braided ramps project in the area.

It’s being done to improve safety and ease congestion.

The project started this week and is expected to last until November.
