Firefighter’s family seeking help for cancer bills

The Road Angels are hosting a lunch fundraiser to benefit Sergio Pando-Ruacho, a Chamberino volunteer firefighter suffering from stage 3 brain cancer.

Pando-Ruacho went to the hospital after falling off a 50 foot cliff while mountain biking along Transmountain in 2013. It was in that hospital visit doctors found a brain tumor and removed it a year later. The cancer was in remission for a time, but another tumor was found last year. Pando-Ruacho had surgery to have the tumor removed and is undergoing radiation treatment.

Pando-Ruacho’s family has said he’s been off of work since September 2017, causing his medical bills to pile up. The Road Angels and Pando-Ruacho’s family are holding a lunch fundraiser to help him pay the bills.

The fundraiser is at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4384, 1580 N. 4th Street in Anthony, New Mexico. It will run from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Each plate will cost $6.

His family has also set up a Go Fund Me page, where they’re hoping to reach a $20,000 goal. You can donate by clicking this link.
