Nearly a hundred DACA supporters rally in Las Cruces

More than one hundred DACA supporters rallied in downtown Las Cruces, insisting they would not compromise for a path to citizenship.

“It’s not just that we’re fighting for ourselves, we’re fighting for everyone,” said Jessica Alvarado, who came to the United States as a child from Mexico.

The White House has dismissed a bipartisan bill that would grant eventual citizenship to DACA recipients, with some compromises.

ABC-7 asked multiple DACA recipients what concessions they would be willing to make for a path to citizenship.

“None!” said Nayeli Saenz, another DACA recipient. “You shouldn’t ask me to choose between my future and the future of my family or my parents or my neighbors or my anybody.”

“We are not willing to make any concessions for that because honestly, this is the land of liberty,” said Jessica Alvarado, another DACA recipient. “This is the land of opportunity. It should remain that way.”

Multiple compromises have already failed, however, those marching in Las Cruces insisted they would not settle for anything less for a path to citizenship with no concessions.

“We’d rather not get anything (than to) pass a DREAM Act that is not clean,” Saenz said.
