EPPD: El Paso mother took baby with fractured skull to Juarez hospital, charged after boy died

Detectives with the police department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit arrested a 20-year-old El Paso woman in connection to the death of a baby boy.

Police said the victim, 10-month-old Alexander Mateo Sanchez, suffered facial injuries, a fractured skull and hemorrhaging underneath the scalp on January 20, 2018. The boy had a large bump on his head, police said.

The victim’s mother, Kinari Yaksi Muñoz , grabbed the boy and walked across the bridge into Juarez to seek medical attention, police said.

Police said the victim arrived at the hospital in Juarez without signs of life. The US Consulate in Juarez contacted CAP and the unit’s investigation resulted in Muñoz being charged with Injury to Child with Intent to Cause Death.

Munoz was booked into the El Paso County Jail on February 9, 2018 on bonds totaling $250,000.

Police did not reveal how the baby sustained the injuries. The investigation continues.
