Men’s Basketball: UTEP rallies late to beat Louisiana Tech
A Matt Willms tip-in with 25 seconds to go proved to be the difference Thursday night as the UTEP Miners defeated Louisiana Tech 74-72 at the Don Haskins Center.
The Miners trailed by five points with just over three minutes to play but ended the game on a 10-3 run.
UTEP improved to 9-18 overall and 4-11 in Conference USA with the win. They remain in 12th place in the conference standings, which would be good enough to make the C-USA tournament, if the tournament started today.
Omega Harris led the way for UTEP with 21 points while Isiah Osborne added 15 of his own. Center Matt Willms nearly notched a double-double, finishing with 10 points and nine rebounds while adding four blocks for good measure.
The Miners, who only scored 33 points in an embarrassing defeat Saturday at Old Dominion, racked up 41 points in the first half alone Thursday.
They also held Louisiana Tech to 25 fewer points than in the first meeting between the teams. The Bulldogs defeated the Miners 97-88 back on January 6.
UTEP will next play Southern Miss at the Don Haskins Center on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. That will be UTEP’s final home game of the 2017-18 season.
