Former Doa Ana County manager settles lawsuit for wrongful termination

Former Doña Ana County Manager Julia Brown has settled her lawsuit against the county for $535,000, court documents obtained by ABC-7’s New Mexico Mobile Newsroom state.

In the lawsuit, Brown alleges she was wrongfully-terminated in April 2017 without an explanation.

“I would call this retaliation. I would call this discrimination, and I would call it politics at its worst,” Brown told ABC-7 moments after Commissioners Court voted 4-1 in favor of terminating her contract.

At the time of the vote, a county commissioner would only tell ABC-7 the County wanted to move in a different direction.

The compensation is for damages, including personal injury, and mental and emotional distress.

Brown is now the city manager for the City of Sunland Park.
