Men’s Basketball: NMSU bounces back with win over Chicago State
Chicago State put a bit of a scare into NMSU Thursday night thanks to the hot shooting of Fred Sims, but it still wasn’t enough as the Aggies notched a 78-67 victory at the Pan American Center.
Sims tallied 30 points going 9-11 from beyond the arc for a Chicago State Team that has not won a WAC game this season (0-12).
A balanced attack helped the Aggies avoid the upset. Jemerrio Jones recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds while Sidy N’Dir led the team with 15 points.
Zach Lofton, who averages over 20 points per game, was held to just six points on 3-10 shooting, but his team rallied around him.
The Aggies had 11 players score in the game with six of those 11 recording at least seven points.
However, the game was still much closer than NMSU’s 37-point win at Chicago State earlier this season.
NMSU improved to 23-5 overall and 10-2 in the WAC, remaining in first place with the win. The Aggies also ended a two-game skid that included losses on the road to Utah Valley and Seattle last week.
NMSU will host UMKC on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. They then go on the road for their final game on March 3 at UTRGV.
If the Aggies manage to win both games, they will win the WAC regular season title outright.
