Chicago Bears release former UTEP star Quintin Demps
The Chicago Bears released safety Quintin Demps along with linebacker Pernell McPhee on Monday in an effort to free up cap space.
Demps, a former star at UTEP, broke his forearm in just his third game with the Bears last season.
He signed with Chicago less than one year ago, agreeing to a three-year deal worth up to $13.5 million with $5 million guaranteed.
Despite Demps being a defensive captain for the Bears last season, the team opted to move on from him after the emergence of Adrian Amos.
The team will free up just over $10.3 million with the release of Demps and McPhee.
Fans in Houston quickly took to Twitter to urge Demps to return to the Texans after news of his release from the Bears broke.
Demps had a career year with Houston in 2016, posting six interceptions in 13 games in his second stint with the team.
Demps was drafted by the Eagles in the fourth round in 2008 and has also played for the Chiefs and Giants.
