CBP seizes more than 900 pounds of marijuana

Customs and Border Protection officers seized more than 900 pounds of marijuana at an El Paso port of entry over the last few days.

Officials said there were 10 marijuana busts, with the largest individual bust at 205 pounds.

Beverly Good, CBP El Paso Port Director said,”CBP officers perform a delicate balance of enforcing the laws of our nation while also maintaining the free flow of trade and travel.”

Last Friday afternoon, CBP says officers picked a 1999 Dodge van for an x-ray inspection and the floor of the vehicle appeared to be in an unusual state. CBP officers continued with the inspection and discovered 180 bundles of marijuana with a total weight of 205 pounds.

CBP says the 39 year-old female driver was taken into custody by CBP officers and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement HSI special agents. She faces charges on the failed drug smuggling attempt.

Other seizures over the last several days include one methamphetamine seizure, seven agriculture enforcement citations, nine National Crime Information Center (NCIC) arrests, four intellectual property rights seizures, and a southbound seizure of 100 rounds of smuggled 9mm ammunition.
