There’s a new holiday on your calendar, iPhone users

Owners of the Apple iPhone may have noticed an event they didn’t schedule on Friday, March 2.

Apple has added the Hindu holiday of Holi to its users’ calendars.

Holi will be celebrated on Thursday, March 1 and into the evening of Friday, March 2.

Despite Holi being a Hindu festival that originated in India, people of all religions and cultures take part as it is now viewed as a universal celebration.

Here is a glimpse of the celebration, featured on National Geographic:

The main event is when people throw handfuls of gulal – coloured powder – and is known as Rangwali Holi, which will happen on Friday.

The festival celebrates the triumph of good over evil.
