Men’s Basketball: UTEP falls to UTSA in Conference USA Tournament
The UTEP men’s basketball team worked hard just to qualify for the Conference USA Tournament, but the Miners were unable to do anything once they got to Frisco.
UTSA defeated UTEP, 71-58, in the first round of the C-USA Tournament at the Ford Center Wednesday evening.
It was the third time UTSA beat the Miners this season. However, this was the most convincing win for the Roadrunners after their first two wins came by four points each.
UTEP scored the first bucket of the game on a Paul Thomas hook shot, but they trailed the rest of the way.
UTSA led by 10 at the half and then extended that lead to 15 early in the second half. The Miners made a few small runs but were never able to really threaten UTSA.
Evan Gilyard led the Miners with 29 points, but he needed 25 shots to get there. Omega Harris scored 12 points in his final game with the team. Fellow senior Matt Willms was held scoreless in 29 minutes of action after only attempting one field goal.
UTEP attempted 27 threes in the game but only made five of them (18.5%).
The Miners end their season with 11 wins and 20 losses.
Meanwhile, UTSA advances to meet Marshall in the C-USA Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday.
