Teenager killed in Hatch rollover
A 16-year-old girl was killed in a single-vehicle crash along the river levee near Hatch Monday evening.
Doña Ana County Sheriff’s deputies were called to an area off B.B. Romig along the northwest river levee at around 7 p.m.
Investigators said Syndy Silva was driving a 2004 Chevrolet pickup southbound on the levee when her vehicle began to veer off the roadway. Deputies believe Silva overcorrected, causing the truck to roll several times.
Silva was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. Investigators said no one was in the vehicle with Silva at the time.
Silva was not wearing a seatbelt and speed is suspected to be a contributor in the crash, investigators said.
