Police: Suspicious package found near East Side Walmart deemed safe

El Paso police determined that a suspicious package found Wednesday near and East Side Walmart store did not pose any threats.

Several police units responded to the parking lot of the Neighborhood Walmart about 8 p.m. at 1561 N. Zaragosa Road. The El Paso Police Department tweeted that officers were looking into reports of a suspicious package.

Several people called the ABC-7 newsroom and said they had been locked inside the grocery store for an an hour, but were unsure why.

Several police units blocked all the entrances to the Walmart on Wednesday evening, and a helicopter could be seen hovering around the area.

About 11 p.m. Wednesday, the police department tweeted, “The El Paso Police Department has determined that the package at 1561 Zaragoza is safe.”
