EPPD: Man shot after breaking into home, attacking homeowner
Police are not yet identifying the 28-year-old man shot after he allegedly broke into a home in Northeast El Paso.
The shooting was reported at 5:44 a.m. on the 4500 block of Britton on Friday, March 23, 2018. ABC-7 first broke the news during Good Morning El Paso and on KVIA.com Friday morning.
Police officers were originally responding to a Burglary of Habitation call, upgraded to a shooting prior to officers arriving at the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed the 28-year old man attempted to break into a residence. When the homeowner exited the home, the alleged burglar picked up a weapon and charged at the homeowner, police said.
When the homeowner retreated into the home, the alleged burglar broke into the residence, police further stated.
At that point, the homeowner fired a handgun, striking the alleged burglar, who ran away from the home. The suspect was located a short distance away and rushed to University Medical Center for treatment.
The man will be charged with Burglary of Habitation and he will be booked into the El Paso County Jail when he is released from the hospital.
The burglar’s identify will be released upon completion of the formal booking process, police said.
