Auditions underway for Viva! El Paso
Auditions are underway for the 41st season of Viva! El Paso. The show celebrates the four major cultures that have influenced the Sun City: Native American, Spanish conquistadors, Mexican and Western American. Their histories come alive through drama, song and dance, performed by a cast of more than 50.
Auditions for singers, actors and dancers were held from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4p.m. on Saturday, March 24. They will also be held Sunday, March 25 at the Abraham Chavez Theatre.
Interested performers and crew can attend any of the four sessions. Those auditioning for performing roles will need to bring a photo ID, Social Security card or employment documentation, a black-and-white 8 X 10 portrait-style headshot, and a resume of past performance/production work, including school information and work history.
Performer requirements are:
— Actors — Prepare a 90-second monologue of their choice.
— Singers — Prepare 90 seconds of a song, with sheet music for piano accompaniment if needed.
— Dancers — Prepare 60 to 90 seconds of a movement piece, with music on a thumb drive or cell phone that can connect to the sound system.
Interviews for technical crew positions will be conducted during those times and dates at the Abraham Chavez Theatre. Those interviewing for those positions must have technical theatrical experience and must bring their resumes to the interviews.
Those positions are: stage manager; lighting design/board operator; head carpenter/set design; prop master/stagehand; sound design/board operator; and spotlight operator.
Performers and technical support crew will be paid a stipend.
The shows will be held at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays June 15 through July 28 at the McKelligon Canyon Amphitheatre.
