New art sculpture for city’s first responders lifted into place

A new art sculpture representing the city’s first responders was lifted into place at the Las Cruces East Mesa Public Safety complex Tuesday.

The $30,000 sculpture titled “Pride” depicts the Organ Mountains and clouds. It’s described as “a circle of unity” and was created by Karen Yank.

The 10 feet high and two feet deep piece is made of Cor-ten steel and stainless steel.

The artist was selected from an art competition project which called for artists to create a unique, site-specific outdoor artwork. The competition was open to artists from New Mexico, Texas, Colorado and Arizona.
