Convicted murderer petitioning for appeal
A man who is serving life in prison for killing a pregnant woman during a drug deal is petitioning for an appeal.
The El Paso Times reported that Ruben Cazares is claiming that his constitutional rights were violated when a judge allowed a wiretap recording into evidence.
The recording was of his nephew discussing the crime with a family member.
ABC-7 reported on the death of Alma Reux, 18, in November of 2013. Reux, who was pregnant, was hit by a car, which left the scene. Both the teen and the unborn baby died.
Cazares was later caught and charged with two counts of murder. He was convicted in August of 2015 and sentenced to life in prison.
