Local middle school receives grant to start computer science program

Valley View Middle School in the Ysleta Independent School District will receive a $20,000 grant to start a computer science curriculum. Valley View is one of 72 schools nationwide to be selected for the program.

The grant will be distributed over a two year period and will pay for teacher development and technological equipment. The curriculum will be implemented through a partnership with the Verizon Foundation and Project Lead The Way, a nonprofit organization that provides a transformative learning experience for students in the sciences and engineering.

The goal of the curriculum is to engage students in computer science and empower them to solve real world problems. It also aims to improve student communication, critical thinking, and collaboration skills through a hands on instructional approach.
