UTEP to unveil a “new vision” for Sun Bowl Stadium on Friday

UTEP will unveil what has been deemed a “new vision” for the Sun Bowl on Friday afternoon.

President Diana Natalicio and athletic director Jim Senter are expected to present a plan that day regarding the future of the stadium.

The Sun Bowl opened in 1963 and originally sat 30,000 fans.

It was then upgraded and expanded in 1982. Today, the stadium can hold up to 51,500 fans.

More recent additions to the stadium include a new video board and an updated playing surface.

According to UTEP, more than seven million fans have attended events at the Sun Bowl over the years.

UTEP will also play its annual spring game on Friday at the Sun Bowl with the game expected to begin at 7 p.m.
