LCPD: Aggravated driver slammed pickup truck into SUV
Las Cruces police arrested a man accused of deliberately slamming his pickup truck into the side of an SUV that was carrying two teens.
A police officer reporting to a call at Walmart on Walton Boulevard allegedly observed Anthony James Baca, 39, who was driving a Ford pickup truck, aggressively following a black and SUV and slamming into the driver’s side of the SUV.
The SUV was occupied by a man and his two sons, ages 14 and 19, who were in the backseat. The damage occurred in the driver’s side and no major injuries were reported.
Baca ignored commands from the officer to stop and fled the scene, police say. He allegedly led officers on a brief pursuit along Griggs Avenue and Triviz Drive, before he was taken into custody.
Investigators say that Baca got upset when his vehicle was allegedly cut off by the SUV near ballparks on Hadley Avenue.
Baca was booked into Doña Ana County Detention Center and faces two charges of child abuse and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held without bond.
