San Elizario set to host Annual History Conference and Festival

The San Elizario Genealogy and Historical Society will host the 27th Annual History Conference and Rio Grande Festival at the Adobe Horseshoe and San Elizario Grounds.

The conference will begin Thursday, April 26 and run through April 29.

The conference highlights the arrival of the Don Juan de Oñate Expedition in 1598. A reenactment of Oñate’s arrival is scheduled for the final day of the conference.

Several events including presentations, fifteen guest speakers and a conference luncheon will take place throughout the week.

The conference luncheon is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. Tickets for the luncheon are $20.00 per person and can be purchased at www.abodehorshoe.com.

A fundraiser dinner will take place Friday at 7 p.m.

This will be the second year the Rio Grande Festival will occur during the conference. Performances showcasing towns in Mexico, along with regional arts and crafts, can be expected.
