San Elizario boys soccer team wins 4A state title

The San Elizario boys soccer team is a state champion for the second time in the past four seasons.

The Eagles defeated previously-unbeaten Palestine in the 4A state championship game Friday.

Martin Rodriguez scored the game’s only goal for the Eagles in the 18th minute as San Eli held on for a 1-0 win.

Rodriguez was named the MVP of the 4A state tournament for his efforts.

The Eagles did not allow any of their six opponents in the postseason to score a goal.

Palestine, which won the state title in 2016, entered the game with a 35-0 record.

San Elizario was also the 4A state champion in 2015.
