UPDATE: Police identify man killed in overnight crash on I-10 West at Airway

Police have identified the man killed in an overnight crash on I-10 West at Airway.

Police say it happened just after 2 AM when a single vehicle crashed. Police say after the crash several vehicles stopped to render aid. One driver stopped to help and placed his vehicle in the fast lane to protect the other drivers who were helping. While they were rendering aid, police say 27-year-old Edgar Ramirez was driving and crashed into the unoccupied vehicle.

Ramirez was taken to University Medical Center where he died. No other injuries were reported. Special Traffic Investigators believe speed, alcohol and stopping in a lane of travel are factors in this fatal collision.

This is the 15th fatality of 2018 compared to 14 during this same time period last year.
