NMSU finds success in 2017-2018 season despite low athletic budget

It’s been a season to remember for New Mexico State University Athletics.

Success has come despite the athletic department’s budget.

In the 2017-2018 season, NMSU teams made the postseason in football, men’s basketball, softball and most recently, the baseball team made the NCAA Tournament.

Dave McCollum, a former NMSU Deputy Athletic Director, took a look at some of the other universities that made the postseason in all of those sports this season and then compared their athletic budgets to that of NMSU’s budget.

NMSU is ranked 8th on the list.

The numbers are from a recent USA Today article.

1. Texas $171.4 million

2. Ohio State $166.8 million

3. Texas A&M $137.1 million

4. Oklahoma $137.3 million

5. Auburn $124.8 million

6. Florida State $115.6 million

7. UCLA $98.9 million

8. NMSU $27.1 million
