Aaron Jones speaks about act of kindness that went viral
Packers running back Aaron Jones said Thursday he has been surprised by the outpouring of support he has received in the wake of a random act of kindness.
Jones was photographed Monday in an airport in Appleton, Wisc., assisting a woman in a wheelchair.
The former UTEP star was returning to Green Bay after spending Memorial Day weekend at home in El Paso.
He was seated across from the woman on a flight from Chicago to Appleton and helped the woman get her bags off the plane when they landed. But his kindness did not stop there.
Jones then pushed the woman to where her daughter was waiting for her after a mix-up at the gate left the woman without assistance.
“The flight attendant told her that there would be somebody there to push her with a wheelchair,” said Jones. “There were wheelchairs there, but no one to push them.”
That photo was uploaded to Twitter and has since been liked more than 18,000 times as of early Thursday afternoon.
His story also appeared on the front page of ESPN.com Thursday evening.
But Jones told reporters Thursday he had no idea his kind act would generate this much attention.
“I didn’t know anybody had taken a picture until I got home and got on Twitter,” he said. “And I was like, ‘Whoa!'”
Packers head coach Mike McCarthy added that the story put “a big smile” on his face when he saw it pop up on his phone.
“I’ll just say about Aaron Jones and our players: I look at that as I’m thankful that everybody else is getting to see what I get to see pretty much every day,” McCarthy said. “I mean, this is a tremendous locker room.”
