UTEP acting camp for kids provides lessons in fine arts, teamwork skills

Every summer, UTEP provides an acting camp for young aspiring actors and actresses in El Paso.

The camp seeks to provide the children who attend with a fun and instructive experience as they get to learn how to act.

The camp, run by UTEP faculty and students, takes kids through a step-by-step, three week acting program. This process includes lessons on voice projection and articulation on stage, how to go through the rehearsal process and stage fright management, among other things.

Adriana Dominguez, director of the camp for the past 12 years, sees the camp as a great opportunity for kids to learn about the fine arts.

“I’m a huge fan of access to the arts and this is one way that we do that. We let young people access the arts in a manner that I think is really effective because we know in the arts that if they’re not exposed to the arts very young, they’re not going to support it later,” said Dominguez.

The purpose of the camp is not only to teach the kids how to act, but to also teach them skills like memorization, articulation, working as a team and other skills that will transfer to whatever they find themselves doing in the future.

The camp is for children ages 7-18 and costs $250 per student.
