Free and fast tests for National HIV Testing today
It’s National HIV Testing Day and the city celebrates by offering free and fast check-ups today!
In order to reduce the spread of the disease, the HIV Prevention Clinic, at 701 Montana, will be open today from 8:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. and from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
The clinic offers HIV, Syphilis and Hepatitis C tests and encourages every individual to get tested and get the medical care they need to live a long and healthy life.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 1 in 8 people living with HIV do not know they have the virus. This can negatively affect their health in the future and it’s recommended to test at least once a year as part of a routine health check-up.
National HIV Testing Day began on June 27, 1995 and what once was weeks of waiting it is now a process that can take only a few minutes.
“Modern HIV tests take only a few minutes to give someone a positive or negative result and are available to anyone regardless of income or insurance,” said HIV Prevention Program Manager, Irene Ovalle.
Not every physician performs an HIV test as part of an annual check-up and it’s encouraged for patients to request the test from their physician.
