Customs and Border Protection to fill 2,000 openings
Customs and Border Patrol wants to fill two thousand openings throughout the nation and the pay is not bad.
Kimberly Rodriguez, 31, was one of hundreds of applicants at Thursday’s CBP and Border Patrol recruitment drive.
Rodriguez was asked if she would separate families at the border if asked to. “Oh, that’s a tough question. You know, a lot of people don’t agree. I think the media has a lot to do with it, but my job is my job and I have to follow orders” Rodriguez told ABC-7, “It’s not something that I encourage, the separation of families, but if it’s part of the job, I feel that I have to do that.”
She, like 18-year-old Christian Garnica, stand to earn nearly $34,000 a year if hired, and can earn as much as $73,000 as they move up the CBP ladder. “I’ve always wanted to do this,” said Garnica.
Both Rodriguez and Garnica have seen the controversy over the separation of families unfold on television news networks. They have also followed developments out of Tornillo, Texas, where teenagers who entered our country on their own were being housed.
“I think it’s very unfortunate. It’s really sad,” said Rodriguez, adding there’s a bigger picture: she is applying for the job to protect the U.S. border first and foremost.
