East Texas man jailed for capital murder takes own life

East Texas authorities say a 55-year-old man jailed on a charge of capital murder after two people were fatally shot last week has taken his own life.

Gregg County Sheriff Maxey Cerliano says Tony Waters was found unresponsive in his cell Wednesday and died of his injuries Saturday at a hospital in Longview.

Waters, of Kilgore, was arrested after 17-year-old Daquan Munson and 51-year-old Charlie Verdell were found shot to death Monday night at a home in Tyler. Munson’s mother, 51-year-old Ladidre Patrice Blevins, was wounded in the same shooting at her home. Authorities say Blevins was Waters’ ex-girlfriend and Verdell her new boyfriend.
