LCPD: Two men shot early Sunday morning in Las Cruces
Las Cruces police confirmed to ABC-7 that two people were shot around 3 a.m. Sunday near Arizona Avenue and Mimbres Streetin Las Cruces.
“I jumped out of bed and I said, ‘Oh my God,'” said Mary Alice Avalos, who lives right next door. “I had the phone in my hand. I had already dialed 9-1-1.”
One of the victims was a 16-year-old male and another was a man in his 20s.
Neighbors say there was a lot of commotion overnight. Alonzo Barrera said there was a small party that quickly escalated.
“The party got out of control,” Barrera said. “They just started shooting. I have no idea who they were or why they did it.”
“I really don’t know how many shots were fired,” Avalos said. “But, right now I’m saying it might have been around 10.”
Both victims were transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds and their conditions are unknown at this time.
“It does scare me, but thank God I wasn’t the one getting hurt,” Barrera said.

Police have not said what lead to the shooting. One resident of the home that hosted the party said a fight broke out and someone brought a gun. Following the commotion, the stop sign on Arizona Avenue and Mimbres Street was run down and left lying in the street.
“You are not safe in your home anymore,” said Avalos, who has lived there for decades.
