11th-annual Plaza Classic Film Festival kicks off Thursday

Movie lovers rejoice!

For the 11th year, the Plaza Classic Film Festival will be showing movies in downtown El Paso.

Organizers expect the festival will draw more than 40,000 people.

“The overall theme this year, we’re calling border stories. About 50 of the movies out of 94 that we’re showing are connected in someway, back to El Paso, Juarez or Southern New Mexico,” program director Doug Pullen said.

The festival is also a big boost for business. Pullen said the festival has an economic impact of more than $1.5 million.

Michelle Rodriguez, is the manager at nearby restaurant Anson 11. The restaurant is providing a discount to festival goers.

“[We see] at least about a 50 percent increase in sales,” Rodriguez said.
