Four-star guard Jordan Lathon signs with UTEP
It’s been a rollercoaster ride for UTEP basketball over the past few hours.
The high point came Thursday night when four-star guard Jordan Lathon signed with the Miners.
That was welcome news for UTEP fans after guard Isiah Osborne announced earlier in the day he would not return to the program after posting 9.4 points per game last season for the Miners.
Lathon was supposed to attend Northwestern, but the university revoked his scholarship offer in late May, forcing him to search for a new school.
Northwestern released the following statement back in May regarding Lathon: “Northwestern University has revoked its offers of admission and an athletic scholarship for Jordan Lathon, a recruit for the Northwestern men’s basketball team. Out of respect for the privacy of the student, the University will have no further public comment.”
Lathon had interest from Texas Tech, SMU, Butler, and other high-profile programs, but he chose to attend UTEP in the end.
The 6’5″ combo guard played his high school basketball in Missouri and led Grandview H.S. to its first-ever state title this past season, scoring 24 points in the title game. The team also finished the year ranked number one in the entire state, according to Maxpreps.
