EPPD: Man accidentally shot friend inside car; both lied to police about drug deal gone bad

Police say the man who told investigators he was shot during a drug deal gone bad lied to investigators and was, in fact, shot by his own friend.

On Wednesday, August 1, 2018, police responded to Del Sol Medical Center in regards to a shooting victim.

20-year old Juan Carlos Cintron had sustained a gunshot wound to his right forearm and bicep, police said. Cintron allegedly told officers he was shot in the parking lot of the McDonald’s on the 1100 block of Yarbrough because of a drug deal gone bad. During their investigation, police spoke with 19-year old Omar Jacquez, who told officers he was called by Cintron to pick him up at the McDonald’s, because he was shot.

Detectives with the Crimes Against Persons (CAP) unit conducted an investigation that allegedly revealed Jacquez drove to the McDonald’s to pick up Cintron. While in the parking lot of the McDonald’s, Cintron entered Jacquez’s vehicle and Jacquez “produced a handgun and pointed it at Cintron,” police said.

Jacquez allegedly told Cintron the weapon was not loaded, when it discharged striking Cintron in the arm. Police said Jacquez then drove Cintron to the hospital, where the initial false story of “a drug deal gone bad,” was related to officers.

Police charged Cintron with False Report to a Peace Officer and jailed him on a $3,000 bond.

Jacquez was charged with Deadly Conduct and jailed on a $30,000 bond.
