US Marshals Office investigating La Tuna escapes
This weekend, the fourth and fifth escape from La Tuna Satellite Prison in New Mexico were reported. The latest being Bryan Yuren Campos and Oscar Saul Valadez who were discovered missing at about 11:00 in the morning of August 3rd.
Immanuel Anderson and Gerardo Morales were both discovered missing from La Tuna SPC on Sunday July 29th and Omar Castro was reported missing from the same facility on July 10th.
The U.S. Marshals Office has confirmed there are six active warrants out for escapees, but did not confirm that all of those warrants are for La Tuna escapees, and said some could be from Dismiss Charities, which is a halfway house.
SLIDESHOW: Recent “walkaways” from La Tuna Camp
They have also confirmed that Immanuel Anderson voluntarily returned to La Tuna the day after he walked away from the Satellite Prison Camp.
Omar Castro, who is reported to have walked away from The La Tuna Satellite Camp on July 10th, 2018 is not shown as having an active warrant according to the US Marshall Public Information Officer.
The US Marshals’ Public Information Officer told ABC 7 that when they receive a report from La Tuna, or other facilities housing inmates, that the inmate has walked away or escaped, they then petition a Judge to issue a warrant. The US Marshall’s Office is then responsible for investigating, locating and returning the escapee. The escape will then appear before the court to face legal consequences.
La Tuna Satellite Prison is a minimum security prison that houses about 325 inmates in Anthony, New Mexico.
ABC 7 is working to find out why there have been so many escapes from La Tuna.
We are working to contact La Tuna, The US Marshall, and the US Attorney’s office to investigate the escapes.
ABC 7 will bring you the latest in the investigation on abc 7 5:00 and 6:00
