Sen. Ted Cruz reportedly asks President Donald Trump to campaign for him in Texas

The Houston Chronicle reports that during a campaign stop in Seguin Monday, Sen. Ted Cruz said he reached out to President Donald Trump to help him with his re-election effort.

Cruz is quoted in the Chronicle saying, “I would certainly welcome his support, and I hope to see him in Texas”.

Just two years ago Trump nicknamed the Texas senator “lyin Ted Cruz” as they faced each other in the race to the White House. Cruz told the Chronicle that while his relationship with Trump has had its “ups and downs,” he has tried to become an ally to the president.

Cruz is expecting to see a tougher than expected re-election in November, as he goes against El Paso U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke. Recent polls have shown Cruz holding onto a single-digit lead over O’Rourke.
