Hart Elementary welcomes students as a new tech campus

Monday marks the first day of class for the El Paso Independent School District.

Students at Hart Elementary School can expect a new way of learning now that the school is a New Tech campus.

The New Tech Network is a California-based company that focuses on integrating 21st century, project-based learning to public schools across the country.

School officials said students will be using technology at a higher level for project-based learning.

“They are going to be able to work with community members and learn together with their peers,” said Guadalupe Vela, a teacher at Hart.

Hart is the first elementary school in the district and the second in the state of Texas to become a new tech campus, according to EPISD.

EPISD invested more than one million dollars to redesign the school to keep up with innovative ways of learning.

Principal Angelica Negrete said students will become better oral communicators, critical thinkers and problem solvers.

“I think our kids are going to love the new tech way because they’re going to be very excited to come to school everyday,” Negrete said.

Most students who attend Hart eventually move on to Bowie High School, where EPISD has its Oso New Tech campus.
