NMSU running back Jason Huntley on preseason award watch list

NMSU running back Jason Huntley was named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award watch list Tuesday.

That award is given to the nation’s top offensive player who was either born in Texas, graduated from a Texas high school, or played at a junior college in the state.

Players are recognized by a selection committee comprised of Texas-based journalists, college football dignitaries and, in subsequent years, each of the all-time winners.

Huntley is a native of Arlington and played his high school football at Martin High School.

Despite sharing the load with fellow running back Larry Rose III a season ago, Huntley still managed to run for more than 400 yards and add close to 400 yards receiving out of the backfield.

Huntley added a 100-yard kickoff return touchdown in the Arizona Bowl that helped spark NMSU’s victory over Utah State.

Huntley and the Aggies will begin their 2018 campaign on Saturday, Aug. 25 at home against Wyoming.
