EPPD proposes new police headquarters
At City Council Tuesday, the El Paso Police Department proposed building a new police headquarters.
EPPD moved in the building on 911 Raynor street in Central El Paso in 1988. Before they moved in, the building was a Sears. 
El Paso Police Chief Greg Allen said, “The efficiency of the building is costing the City money in repairs .”
As well as an old building, it’s parking garage right next door has had a few problems.
A few years ago, a fire truck fell threw the top level of the parking lot, as well as a portable john truck.
Last year the City approved $1.5 in repairs for the garage.
The price and location of the new police headquarters has not been discussed yet. Tuesday’s city council meeting was the first step before the police department and the City move any further.
El Paso police have also been pushing an east side command center, and City Council Represetative Dr. Mmichiel Noe, who represents Far East El Paso, suggested combining the two.
The date for approval has not been set yet.
